“The Repurpose Project” June 1st-30th 2014.

Was about challenging myself by painting, drawing and giving a second life to ordinary or everyday objects… Every single day for an entire month… and I decided to share Day 1 to 30, with you guys (find me on Instagram). Below a couple of them…

So, WHAT exactly LIES BEHIND the Project? These are my thoughts:
“Putting visual and physical bounderies stimulates the creative process and develops inspiration. I had a need to get out of the comfort zone and challenge my ability to create pictures. Yet, another more global aspect was also taken in consideration; Today when we consume more than we can handle, I wanted to paint & draw on used items. Taking everyday objects, old or ugly and make them live a little longer as beautiful, interesting or funny. A private seeking process that I chose to share because I believe that Inspiration should be given and taken. That it goes over frontiers and applies to whatever lies closer to your heart whether You paint, sing, dance, write, act or being any kind of Creator. Enjoy and keep whatever catches your eye, mind or heart.”

Clarion Sense, done!

Yesterday, we took home all the Ladies that were hanging at Clarion Sense Luleå. For a month or so, you could see eight paintings on the Conference floor, the SkyBar and the Kitchen & Table restaurant.

The staff told me it would feel empty without and that they will miss them. Thank you for that! I myself was glad to “be” at a beautiful venue but glad too to take them back.

Now time to cuddle them, like after every show and transport. Clean, stretch and tighten up the canvas that sometimes tends to sag a bit…

The Organ Queen & the story behind the pipes…

As the Organ Acusticum took three years to build and is one digital marvel combined with the oldest instrument, it was definitely a challenge to personalize “Her”. As they say the organ is “the Queen of all Instruments”…

I had the privilege to look inside and walk through the three level high organ house. See the 9000 pipes made of steel and wood, the raindeer leather that showed being stronger than the usual they use in central Europe and the incredible machinery where the “Air” has the main role.

Talking with organ builder, historian and organists gave me a peek into the organ history and I felt the importance of getting “credits” among them. So searching into books and googling around I tried to assemble different technical as well as historical references.

I wanted the painting to feel the Baroque period, which is one of the important eras regarding the evolution of the organ. With Power, Grandeur and Respect… As a wind instrument, the “air” is present blowing up the hair upwards and in the dress and giving LIFE to the picture! The air is the living part of the organ…

The gown is inspired from the Romantic period,  another important time, with Heart, Passion, Disorder and Mysticism. The dress’ color is the red ochre that the wooden pipes are painted with that makes “the wood sing” according to the organ builder. A detail, the corset is made of pipes as well, the breast breathing…

The connection to the digital part of the organ, is illustrated by her wearing pistage green gloves (same color painted on the wooden boxes that contains all electronic devices) with wires woven in the fabric and around the arms, coming out from the finger tops. The futuristic part and the “eye into the Future” is illustrated with the green shade upon her eyes.

Finally, The Queen is wearing a crown and a collar of pipes, one hand on the clavier and the other lifting up the Air!

I hope this could give another dimension to the painting… not just a picture.

See the evolution over ten days and a couple close ups.

Mendi collab PHILIPS

While putting together the pics & movie of the Organ Queen painting made for Acusticum/Organ Festival last week, I thought I’d show you my recent and ongoing collab with PHILIPS!

They are launching a new tv screen “Walls by Philips”,  and I have the pleasure,  with three other artists, Lasse Åberg, Amelie Hegardt och Christian Beijer to be featured to illustrate the concept.

Below pics from Hem & Villa tradeshow and a shopping mall in Stockholm as PHILIPS is touring to exhibit their new product.
